With unemployment sky rocketing, and not looking like it’s going to come down any time soon, it’s important to be open to new job opportunities. One opportunity that is actually seeing record growth is online proofreading jobs. These jobs are almost recession proof because there are more and more business relying on the web, and relying on web content to get their messages to their consumers. All of this content must be proofread, and that’s why there are so many jobs out there for those who want to do this work.

Basically anything on the internet can be considered content. If there are words on the page, someone had to proofread those words before they made it to publication. Whether or not a company hires actual proofreaders is going to depend on its size and how much content they produce, but even small businesses contract this work out on a one time basis. They will hire people who’ve taken an online proofreading course, and who has experience in the business.

The thing about this web savvy businesses is that they aren’t using traditional newspaper classifieds to find their proofreaders. They are using the many different online resources to find freelancers who want to do this work. This saves them time, and money, especially since they won’t have to house, and fully employ the proofreader.

It’s important to continue your education with online proofreading courses because it proves that you are serious about proofreading jobs. A lot of people say they want to do this work, but they don’t have the proper education and background, they haven’t invested any time or money into improving their skills, and they have no experience. Now, if you’ve taken a proofreading course, and have a job or two under your belt, who do you think they’re going to hire?

My English teacher told us that this semester are going to do a lot of writing. I love writing, but she isn’t interested in fiction. She wants us to write nonfiction. I’m not as excited about writing literary essays, term papers, and other really boring stuff. What I like to write are short stories. I really hope that they’ll be a time when teachers start giving out assignments for fiction instead of nonfiction. It’s not as if we’re going to use the arts a writing a literary essay or term paper in real life. The point of writing these things is to show but we have an understanding of the literature that we’ve read, and also to show do we have a command of the English language. What better way to show we understand that literature that we’ve read, then to write a story that has the same theme. It will also show and we have a great command other language. Maybe I’ll bring that up in class next time.
