Many people are paralyzed when their laptop computers are broken or damaged. They are willing to do almost anything or pay any price to get the offending piece or part replaced so that they can get on with their lives.

One part that is especially vulnerable on a laptop computer is the screen. An LCD screen, the type of screen that is used in most laptop computers, is very vulnerable to scratching or other damage.

Fortunately, a damaged LCD screen is not the end of your laptop. Replacement LCD screens can be very affordable and the turn around time to getting them fixed can be very quick if you know where to go and what to look for.

The first thing you will want to do when you are looking for replacement LCD screens is to not panic. Many people get too upset when their computers aren’t working and then they set themselves up to get taken advantage of.

Investing even an hour or two into finding the right price and an honest repairman could make all the difference in the quality of repair that you get.

However, that extra hour or two that you should spend shopping for replacement LCD screens usually won’t get your computer back to you any faster and may end up costing you time.

Look for local places with good reputations. Call around and ask about pricing before you show up. You may also want to call friends, family, and acquaintances for recommendations.

Actually, the ideal time to locate honest and good computer repair people is when you first get your new computer. After the warranty runs out, you will need to take care of problems yourself.

Ideally, you should do the research on where to get replacement LCD screens and other parts and repairs when you first get your computer. However, if you didn’t do that, all is not lost. You can still quickly determine where the best place to go to get replacement LCD screens with just a couple of simple tips.

There are many stores that offer great prices on the internet for replacement LCD screens. However, unless you are sending your computer back to the manufacturer for a covered repair, sending out your laptop for repairs like getting replacement LCD screens is ill-advised.

With the mail, you are only lengthening the amount of time you are without your computer. Secondly, replacement LCD screens are a common repair and don’t require sending it to some company far from where you live.

Also, you run the risk of losing or damaging your computer while it is being shipped. Lastly, what do you really know about the company where you are mailing your computer?

It could be a scam of some kind and taking action would be very difficult and expensive. Staying close to home is usually a much better and quicker policy.

If youre got some spare time and youd like to make some money without much work, online surveys are just the thing for you. With a computer and a little advice, youll be all set to make some extra cash for you and your family.

Be realistic

You first have to realize that when you take online surveys, you wont be paid thousands of dollars. In fact, the people that do take online surveys regularly will usually say that the best way to make more money is to take more surveys.

Youll need to sign up for a few different online survey sites in order to have a constant stream of surveys to complete.

Watching out for scams

When you do see ads to take online surveys that supposedly pay thousands of dollars, you can be certain that these arent legitimate claims.

In order to make money with online surveys, you will need to file your information with reputable companies. These are easy to find by looking for the company information to see if they give you ways to contact them. Those companies that seem to be hiding from you usually have a reason.

And if the company tells you that you need to pay money in order to make money, then go to another web site. You shouldnt have to pay to earn extra money.

Market research

One of the best ways to make some extra money or earn some free products is to participate in market research surveys. These tend to come from the big name companies that want to know what their customers think. Youll answer questions about their products and give suggestions about ways that they could improve.

In many cases, you can be rewarded with free products or cash payments.

Focus groups

Another way to make money online is to become a part of a focus group. This is an invitation from a company to set with other customers and discuss a particular product or service. You can also do these online in the form of chat rooms and message boards.

You are usually compensated for the time or the amount of information that you give to the company about the product.

Following the rules

The most simple advice for making money for doing online surveys is to make sure that youre completing the surveys in their entirety as well as giving your correct contact information.

What many people dont realize is that you may need to confirm your email address before you will receive new surveys to do. Check your email after you first register with an online survey web site to see if there are any other steps that you need to follow.

And check your junk email box too, as this important email may have landed in there.

Online surveys are a great way to make a little extra money when you have a little extra time on your hands. And you dont have to get dressed up to do it.

I bought a coloring book yesterday from Wal-Mart. I hadn’t colored in years and I got the strange urge to out of the blue. I also bought a 24-pack of Crayola crayons. The box says they are non-toxic which is a relief. I just wonder who sells the toxic crayons and how they compare in price to the crayons I bought. Some people may consider having a radioactive glow about them the same color as the crayon they justed used to be a great feature for which they would gladly pay extra.

The coloring book I bought is called Justice League to the Rescue and it contains colorable pictures of all the Justice League heroes like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and The Flash. My favorite is Batman. I’ve always admired the darkness that hangs about him. Other superheroes seem to happy and cheerful (even when supervillains are totally destroying their towns) but not Batman- you can hear the depression in his voice. I would vote Batman the ‘CrimeFighter You Would Most Likely Run Into At Your Shrink’s Office. I’m willing to bet that Batman has a few anti-depressants tucked away in one of thse pouches on his BatBelt.

Since Batman is my favorite member of the Justice League I started my coloring book rebirth with one of his pictures. I colored his suit blue, his gloves and boots red, and the underside of his cape indigo. I would have called it purple but the side of the crayon said ‘Indigo, Indigo, Indigo’, apparently because indigo is spelled the same way in English, Spanish and, I believe, French. I’va always wondered why Crayola listed the crayon colors on the side of their crayons in three different languages. As I child it was very confusing to me because I didn’t know which listing was English and so up until about 10 years old I pronounced most of my colors in the Spanish tongue. I still blame this for most of my academic failures in life, that and the fact that all through middle and high school I refused to take more than one book home at a time. Even if I had homework in 4 classes I would only take one book home. Taking more than one book home made you look like a complete losernerd, or in my case, more of a complete losernerd.

I colored Batman’s eyes and face yellow-green (verde amarillo, vert-jaune) because I thought it would give him that money green aura that I’m sure a gazillionaire like Bruce Wayne has about him. Turns out I probably should have went with green-yellow (amarillo verde, jaune-vert) because instead of ‘money green’ the aura I got was ‘ready-to-puke’ which is probably the way he really looks most of the time when you factor in all the tall buildings Batman is constantly leaping from.

I was so satified with my picture when I finished coloring in that I signed and dated it. Who knows, years from now when I become a household name that picture may be worth a fortune. You may see it on ebay going for thousands of dollars. Don’t despair if you can’t afford to buy it-I’ve got a whole coloring book here and a lot more crayons, I’m sure I can color something in your price range. Tell you what, just for you, I’ll even get rid of the Crayola crayons and color a picture with a box of those regular ol’ toxic crayons. Then you’ll not only get a Timothy Ward original colored picture but you also get that great radioactive glow…

Nursing Uniforms

Are Nursing Uniforms Required – And Do Some Hospitals Provide Them for Nurses?

Nursing Uniforms have been a hot ticket item as of late. With the recent surge within the nursing profession, uniform sales have also been on the rise. Nursing uniforms are a necessity for all nurses regardless of where they work, so you can imagine what kind of demand has been placed on these outfits in recent years. In addition to individuals buying nursing uniforms, hospitals are also buying these uniforms in bulk for many of their nurses. Not all hospitals take up this practice, but the ones that do order up to a hundred uniforms at once.

Additionally, a nurse needs more than one nursing uniform. During the course of a day, nurses will get their uniforms dirty and soiled; sometimes to a point beyond repair. At that time, it is always good to have a backup in place. Most nurses have a uniform for every day of the week that they work. In other words, if a nurse works four days a week, it might be a good idea to have four nursing uniforms. This way, you do not have to worry about getting your wash done on time, or running out of uniforms should something happen to the ones that you have. Again, some hospitals offer free nursing uniforms. This may not sound like much, but it can be a plus if you are required to have a certain amount of uniforms. If a hospital offers this service, it is something that they will use as a selling point in there efforts to land new nurses.

Nursing uniforms have always been required, and probably always will be. People need to be able to identify these workers, so having them in a standard uniform is the best way of doing so. As long as the demand for nurses continues to rise, the demand for nursing uniforms will also climb. This is good news for the companies that manufacture nursing uniforms.

If you have ever needed to print a large number of files, you would probably know how tedious and time consuming this process can be.

If the number of files to print is not very high and the files are of the same type, the task might not be too bad. In this case the best way to print all the files can be: open all files in an application which can print this file type, then go quickly through every file one-by-one and send every file to printer.

The printing process is usually organized in such way that you do not need to wait for printer to finish each document(file), instead you can spool many files into a queue. While printer processes a document, which is a relatively slow process, all upcoming files are stored in computer and printer memory. This memory queue for upcoming files allows users quickly submit their documents for printing and continue doing other tasks.

The problem arises when the number and type of file for printing is getting high. If there are different types of files to be printed, user must open each file type group in a corresponding application and submit each file for printing individually. The problem is becoming even worse when the number of opened files and applications grows, computer memory has its limits and it cannot open too many files and applications.

User can still deal with different types of files if their number is probably not more than 20-30. How would a user deal with 100, 1000, or 10,000 files?? This can be a big problem for users at print shops, medical transcription industry, or for anybody who needs to print large number of files, for example PDF, Excel, Word, Image, TIFF, and others.

There are software solutions exist to overcome the problem of printing multiple files of different types. Some of the popular titles include Print Helper by DCI, Batch & Print Pro by Traction Software, and Batch Print & Batch Convert by SilentPrint. They offer free trial versions for download.

Here is a great opportunity to make money just being home. Earn up to 25% of the money made by selling Oil Paintings. Here is how it is done, its easy, enroll in a reseller program by contacting the site owner of Oil Paintings, open your very own reseller site. Sit back and let the money flow in.

Look for established sites that sell Oil Paintings, contact by email or through their contact form to make your request for becoming a reseller. With minimum effort you could be seeing enormous cash flow. But you may ask why Oil Paintings?? Well the answer is simple, because material of art hardly needs marketing. People buy the Paintings for the quality work done.

Once you own a painting it is yours!!! You may not be able to reproduce the art, but you can sell it for whatever you want, I do all the time!! If you can sell it for more than you bought, more power to you. I see most artists not being able to sell their material and end up getting a cheap bargain. With the right kind of strategy you could be selling the same piece for five maybe ten times what you bought it for.

You could even auction it off in ebay because once the Oil Painting is bought by you; there is no royalty over such material. This is how paintings of famous artist such as Van Gough are sold for millions by the rightful owner, which is what you could be.

By far reselling is one of the best business practices wherein the returns are far higher to what the investment is. Reselling is legal whereas just making multiple copies of the work of art without the permission of artist and selling those is going to land you in trouble. When an artist sells you a work of art he/she has to provide you with rights for reproduction of original copy. Unless such clear agreement is made it would be a crime to make copies.

If you decide you have the killer marketing skills, you could even go in for wholesale purchase of paintings and turn them into your gallery wherein you could start building your own purchase of Oil Paintings and make profitable income.

I heard an artists once say If he sold a picture for say $50, and the buyer then resold it for $500, then lucky for them. An artist once sells his Painting to a person, he is entitled to sell it to others, but not make copies of it.

To begin with look for a site where you could purchase paintings that you feel can fetch you good market value. It is always advisable to start with popular items. Once you get a foot holding in the market arena then you could trade multiple Paintings after wholesale purchase.

These are just a few pointers towards making a successful career out of reselling paintings. Please remember this fair warning to read through the Copyright laws before you decide to market material that you have purchased.

When it comes to shopping on the internet there a range of factors you have to consider before purchasing the product. Keep in mind that youre buying the product without actually physically visiting a store. When you physically visit the store to make your purchase you evaluate the product according to criteria. This criterion may involve product quality, utility and of course the price you pay in relation to these very important factors. After all you buy a product to perform a certain task (which is the basic utility of the product) and you pay its price more or less in relation to the quality of the product. In other words, how efficiently that product can perform the task on hand. When doing your shopping online its important that you follow these same guidelines.

When you are just starting out with acrylic painting, you will most certainly make your share of mistakes. This is the natural process of painting and we all learn and grow from our mistakes. This article introduces some of the more common mistakes beginner acrylic painters make.

Mistake #1 to avoid: Not using enough variety in your painting. An interesting painting has variety. It creates curiosity and interest, and the viewer wants to return again to observe it. So how do you create an interesting painting? Use a variety of different brushstrokes, techniques and values in your paintings. Change the direction of your brushstrokes or mix different techniques in the same painting.

Mistake #2 to avoid: Being too technical or copying. In order to truly paint a subject, and when I say “truly”, I am not saying you should copy the subject exactly as you see it. I am referring to connecting to the painter inside and truly painting your own impression of what you see. This is how your inner creativity shines on the canvas. It is what set painters like Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet apart from the rest. They each injected their own style and heart into their work. I believe your own unique creativity comes to the surface the moment you stop relying on the technicalities and theories associated with painting. I am not saying one shouldn’t study techniques and theory, but at some point we have to put that stuff on the back burner and let our creativity do some of the thinking. Whatever you do, don’t copy other artists. There is nothing wrong with allowing other artists to influence you, just make sure you allow your own unique style to come through.

Mistake #3 to avoid: Not observing your subjects. Do you spend time observing the subjects you feel inspired to paint? If you are a portrait artist, have you done any studying of the human anatomy? If you paint landscapes, do you spend enough time outdoors in that environment? If you aren’t spending enough time observing the subjects that you wish to paint, then you won’t know have enough knowledge to paint them.

Mistake #4: Not using quality art supplies. Are you using quality acrylic painting supplies? A really experienced and talented artist could probably create an entire painting using a toothpick, but who really wants to work that hard? When it comes to fine art supplies, you usually do get what you pay for. If you paint with a 50cent paintbrush, it will probably paint just like a 50cent paintbrush. The ferrule will more than likely become loose and the hairs will probably shed. If you are using really cheap paint, you will more than likely get really cheap results. The colors will not have the same brilliance or the right consistency. So invest in quality art supplies and take great care of them as well.

Mistake #5 to avoid: Not using enough paint. Learn how to apply paint to your canvas. Many beginners don’t reload their brushes often enough. I made this same mistake when I first began painting. I would squeeze out a little glob of paint and try to cover as much area as possible. In my case, I was just lazy, but many beginners are fearful of wasting paint. This is a reasonable concern considering the cost of supplies. The truth however, is that your paintings will be more interesting if you lay down the brush stroke, leave it alone, and then reload your brush. Don’t try and scrub the paint into the canvas, otherwise you are just staining, and not painting.

Mistake #6 To Avoid: Over Thinking. Don’t overly criticize or judge your own work while you are painting. This only creates discouragement and forces many beginners to become frustrated and quit. Just relax and let go. Trust yourself and your abilities.

I hope this article on acrylic painting has been helpful. Never get discouraged if you are making mistakes or not happy with your work. Mistakes are learning tools. Learn and move on. The most important aspect of painting is the enjoyment we receive from it anyway. Frustration and discouragement should never dominate the painting experience. Happy painting!

The World Cup is a small gold trophy representing the hopes and ambitions of every footballing nation on earth. Since the advent of the World Cup in 1930, there have been two trophies awarded to the winners. The
Jules Rimet Trophy was the original prize for winning the World Cup. Originally called simply the World Cup or Coupe du Monde, it was renamed in 1946 to honour the FIFA President Jules Rimet who in 1929 passed a vote to initiate the competition. Designed by Abel Lafleur and made of gold plated sterling silver on a blue base of lapis lazuli, it stood 35 cm high and weighed 3.8 kg. It was in the shape of an octagonal cup, supported by a winged figure representing Nike, the ancient Greek goddess of victory.

During World War II, the trophy was held by Italy. Ottorino Barassi, the Italian vice-president of FIFA, hid it from the Germans in a shoe-box under his bed.

Just before the 1966 World Cup Final in England the trophy was stolen during a public exhibition at Westminster Central Hall, but was found just seven days later, wrapped in newspaper at the bottom of a suburban garden hedge in Norwood, South London, by a dog named “Pickles”. As a security measure, FIFA secretly manufactured a replica of the trophy for use in the post-match celebrations. The replica was also used on subsequent occasions until 1970. The replica was sold at an auction in 1997 for $425,015.There were many replicas on eBay at that time.

The Brazilian team won the trophy for the third time in 1970, and were rewarded by being allowed to keep it in perpetuity. However, the cup was stolen again in 1983 in Rio de Janeiro and never recovered; it may have been melted down. The Brazilian Football Confederation commissioned a replica of their own.

The replacement trophy, officially known as the FIFA World Cup Trophy, was first presented at the 1974 World Cup. Designed by Silvio Gazzaniga, it stands 36 cm tall and is made of 5 kg of 18 carat (75%) solid gold with a base containing two layers of malachite, and depicts two human figures holding up the Earth. The name of the country whose national team wins the tournament is engraved, together with the year, in the bottom side of the trophy. It is not known whether FIFA will retire the trophy after all of the name plaques at the base are filled in; this will occur after the 2038 World Cup.

FIFA’s regulations now state that the trophy, unlike its predecessor, cannot be won outright: the winners of the tournament receive it on loan for four years and receive a replica to keep.

Here’s something you may not know! There is a very good chance that the car insurance rate you are paying right now is a direct result of your gender. Sometimes your gender will play a very significant role in the rate that you are quoted for car insurance. When it comes to car insurance rates, women drivers tend to pay cheaper premiums than men. This is because statistically speaking, women drivers tend to be more reliable drivers in general, who drive vehicles which a re safer, and who tend to file significantly less insurance claims. Not all women drivers are better than men when it comes to driving, but many car insurance companies are picking up on what the statistics are saying, and are adjusting their rates accordingly. This is a common practice for insurance companies both in the United States and in the United Kingdom as well. In fact, in the United Kingdom there are agencies which exist solely to find low cost insurance options for women drivers. Many of these agencies can be found simply by doing a basic search on the internet. Cheap car insurance for lady drivers is typically fairly easy to find, provided that you qualify for the insurance that you are applying for.

Car insurance companies have spent many years doing research on data pertaining to men and women drivers, and many of the findings have pointed directly toward the idea that women drivers are simply safer and more reliable drivers than men are. For example, women drivers do not appear to be involved in near as many accidents as men drivers are, and when they are involved in accidents the amount of damage involved is typically significantly less. This may be because they are more cautious in general, or it may have to do with the fact that they choose safer cars in general. Additionally, women drivers are much more likely to pass their driver’s license exam on the first try, which is not nearly as typical for male drivers. This has nothing to do with the fact that one gender is more intelligent than the other, and is likely because women take the initiative to spend more time practicing and studying before the exam.

These statistics have led car insurance companies to re-evaluate the way that they offer car insurance premiums to female drivers. As a result, insurance providers are much more likely to offer cheaper car insurance premiums to women drivers than to men. So women are not being offered cheaper rates simply because they are women — They are being offered these rates because the statistics show that it would not be a dangerous bet to offer a lower rate to a safer driver. It has nothing to do with the fact that car insurance companies tend to favor women, or because car insurance companies have been led to believe that gender has anything to do with actual driving skills. All it means is that the statistics have shown that women driver tends to be safer and much more cautious than a male driver, which makes them a safer bet when it comes to automobile insurance risk.

Though women drivers may get lower car insurance rates than men, they are still subjected to all of the exact same criteria when it comes to determining whether or not they will be approved for car insurance, and what quote will be offered to them. All of the following criteria play a part in determining whether or not you will qualify for cheap car insurance.

o The driving record and driving history of the policyholder, and anyone else that will be driving the vehicle.

o The location where the policyholder lives, and where the car will be parked.

o Details about the vehicle, including the make, model and year. Additionally, the vehicle will typically have to pass a safety inspection or at least appear to be in safe working order.

o The credit score and history for the policyholder. Credit history plays a part in whether or not car insurance is awarded in order to insure that insurance is only granted to responsible persons who can handle the monthly premium payments.

o The age and experience of the driver and the policyholder also play a part in the decision. On one hand, many young drivers can acquire special deals and discounts on their insurance policies because they are new to driving, but some insurance policies tend to charge more instead because new and inexperienced drivers are more prone to having accidents or incurring traffic violations which can negatively affect their premiums.

In order to make it easier to find cheap car insurance for lady drivers, it is necessary to practice all of the following:

o Safe driving habits.

o Driving vehicles which are known to be safe.

o Parking or storing vehicles in locations which are safe.

o Paying attention to their driving records and making improvements whenever it is possible.

o Paying attention to their credit scores and reports and making improvements whenever it is possible.

The statistics that have led car insurance companies to offer cheaper premiums to women drivers were never meant to be sexist or discriminatory, but they have done a lot to help women drivers secure car insurance premiums which are inexpensive. This does not mean that men cannot turn around and secure car insurance rates that are just as affordable, but it is generally a lot easier for a female to find the cheap rates than for a male to. Hopefully the rising costs of car insurance premiums will urge more male drivers to take up safe driving habits or to drive cars which are safer in general. If men drove as cautiously as women drivers do, their car insurance premiums would likely be just as inexpensive.

You can pick from anything from Ball Room Dancing, to Line Dancing, to Latin etc. Pick something that sounds fun to you and go for it. Youll enjoy the extra one on one time with your partner as well.

Swimming makes for some great exercise. It is low impact and easy on your joints. Start by swimming a few laps, or play in the pool with your kids.

9) Go for a Bike Ride
Take the entire family on a bike ride. You can ride through your neighborhood in the evenings or plan a longer trip for the weekend. Pack a picnic for extra fun and start peddling.

10) Go for a Hike
Look for some hiking trails in your area and go for a hike. This could be a fun activity for you and a friend, or take the entire family along. Start with some easy trails and work yourself up to some longer or steeper trails.

Go ahead, pick one or two of the activities and get moving. Im sure youll come up with plenty of versions of your own. The most important thing is to find something you enjoy, so youll stick with it. Get out there and get moving today.

Cleats are sports shoes with outsole traction devices. They provide support, stability, and traction while playing. Though most cleats have these qualities, specific cleats are to be used for different sports. Even if you play all sports, you should still get a separate pair for each. It is therefore important to make sure that the cleats you want to buy are appropriate for the sport you play. Softball is one of the most common and popular game that requires cleats. Proper cleats for this game can easily be purchased with the following considerations.

Softball cleats are usually manufactured in two types: detachable and molded. Detachable cleats are the cleats commonly used by more experienced players. As the name implies, detachable cleats’ spikes are removable. They can be removed from the outer sole and replaced with other studs depending on the surface of the playing field. The studs can either be made with rubber, metal, or hard plastic. Metal cleats are often used on hard playing grounds while rubber and plastic are adopted for turf playing fields. Though adaptable for any playing field, detachable cleats are harder to maintain and clean. As opposed to the detachable cleats, the studs of molded cleats protrude from the outer sole. These studs are usually of hard plastic or rubber. They are molded and do not detach from the shoe. They are also easier to clean and maintain, hence, advisable for playing who are just beginning to learn the sport.

The kind of material used on the cleats is also important. This could spell the difference between a so-so and superb performance. Materials for softball cleats range from the more expensive leather to the cheaper varieties made of synthetic materials. Even if leather is expensive, it is durable, breathable, and flexible. In time, it molds according to feet’s shape, thus providing ample support and comfort. Synthetic materials in cleats don’t allow feet to breathe and are less able to stand strain and long wear. However, they are cheaper and could be good enough for beginners like kids. The design of the cleats is also an important matter. Design does not mean the aesthetic of the shoe but rather it’s cut. A higher cut ankle (3/4) offers added support for the feet and prevents ankle and connective tissue injuries. Most major league players prefer this cut although some feel restricted by the height. For those who want easier movement, a lower cut design provides freedom and ease of movement. Most players agree that cleat height is a matter of comfort and preference.

Having good and proper cleats is essential to any softball game or any game, for that matter. Poorly cared-for cleats usually result in bad games and poor performance. Proper maintenance and care for the cleats ensure that the cleats can resist and withstand long wear, dirt, and ground impact. So aside from having fresher looking cleats, proper maintenance also ensures many good games to come.

Everyone wants to find a good, honest and reliable local garage which gives them value for money every time. So how do you go about finding one locally? The good news, it is possible if you just follow these 4 simple steps. This in turn eliminates the chances of you using the wrong ones that are going to charge you over the top. And the first step is to get personal recommendations especially from those that drive around in a similar model and make of car as yours.

Step 1 – How to be get personal Auto Repairs recommendations

So you drive around in a model of car that not many own or drive. So how do go about getting personal recommendations? Well it is now that much easier. Just email or text friends, relatives and work colleagues to ask them if they know of anyone who drives a similar model and make of car as yours locally. Give them your details as well as saying you are looking for a reliable garage to service or to do some auto repairs on your car in the local area. If they don’t know of anyone, get them to ask their friends. They in turn may know someone. As the saying goes, you are no more than 6 people away from the person you want to contact or speak to. Try it out. It works. You’ll be amazed at the results. Now on to the next step.

Step 2 – You now have a shortlist of potential garages to use for your auto repairs.

So what questions should you now ask those who have just recommended a particular garage for some auto repairs? Here are just some to get you started:

1. What do they like about the auto repairs in particular? Find out the reasons why.

2. How long have they been using the garage for servicing and for auto repairs?

3. What did they have done last on their car? Have they had any other auto repairs done using the same garage?

4. What was the service like? Any feedback? How was the car returned to them? Was it clean and tidy?

5. Was it repaired on the day and at the time it was booked in? Or do the auto repairs always over-run?

6. Were they informed of any other extra auto repairs that needed to be done before they were actually carried out? Did the auto repairs garage give them a quote at the time and more importantly did they keep to it?

7. Was the invoice itemised with a detailed breakdown for the auto repairs done including parts replaced? Were there any hidden nasty surprises added to the bill they knew nothing about?

8. Did the auto garage stamp the service book and were they any other issues?

9. How did they book their car in? Was there a long waiting period of say over a week to book their car in etc?

10. The garage itself was it well run, tidy, clean and well maintained? What was the general attitude of the staff? Were they polite and helpful?

11. Have they had any reason to go back to the garage to have some of the auto repairs looked at again?

Step 3 – Now to check out those auto repairs / garages on your shortlist

You now have a shortlist of the potential garages to use for your urgently needed auto repairs. You now need to quickly vet all of these out. First phone the auto repairs up and ask them for a service quote for your make and model of car.

1. How long were you kept waiting on the phone before it was answered?

2. Were they specific and detailed as to what is included as part of the service and what isn’t?

In most cases the way the reception staff operates and how they deal with the public ( i.e. customer care) is a reflection of how the auto repairs is being run. Yes, the person may be having a bad day. But even if they are, they should be professional and at their best when dealing with the public.

After a few days, you now need to do a quick visit to the auto repairs itself. It’s best not to go first thing in the morning as you want to see how the auto repairs is working properly at a busy time. Simply go to the reception desk and again ask them for a quote on the servicing of your car. Give them your car details etc. This is now your chance to ask any other questions you may still have:

If any work is undertaken on your car, how long is guaranteed for. It is always best to use an actual example to get all the details. This is so there can be no misunderstanding.

Ask them what is included in the service and what isn’t. You can now compare this to what was said on the phone earlier. Are they any differences? If there are, ask them why this is the case?

Find out where you collect the car once it has been serviced. You want your car to be parked and kept in a secure place. And not down a narrow side road where cars have difficulty parking and passing.

As part of the small talk, ask them how long they been working at the auto repairs? Lead them on and see how they react to your comment “It seems to be a very friendly place etc”. If they say yes it is, ask them how long most of the staff stay. Ask what training they have had most recently.

Once you have finished with the reception, look around generally:

1. Watch how the telephone messages are taken. Is it done systematically or just ad hoc on a piece of paper etc?

2. Is all the paperwork and documentation kept in an orderly way for each car?

3. Are the notice boards tidy and up to-date?

Review everything including how you were generally treated.

Step 4 – Now for the final test.

Once you have done the same for all the other auto repairs on your shortlist you can now decide which auto repairs to go with:

1. Best to give your chosen garage a small auto repair job first if you can, to see how they do it. What many also do at the same time is to mention they were recommended by such and such person with so and so car who also uses them.

2. If more than one person has given you a personal recommendation for that garage also mention their name. This way the auto garage knows that you are a serious customer. By doing this you ensure they will do an excellent job rather than risk you going back to their other existing customers and telling them otherwise. Play them at their own game.

Lastly as soon as you have changed your car to a new one, especially to a different make and model of car, you may need to find another suitable auto repairs to do the servicing and repairs to your car in the future. However you may be lucky in that the auto repairs you are presently using can also do all the servicing and any necessary repairs on your new car. Find out now if this is the case, and not when you need a garage in a hurry.

Let’s face it… Learning to use those “dots on the rails” can be daunting at times, and other times down right frightening.

In this short article, I’ll give the beginner to amateur level player a few tips to follow in their quest to become proficient in the pool and billiards diamond system.

Tip #1: Master the fundamentals of the game first

Like in any other skills its always easier to learn the correct way at the beginning than try to unlearn bad habits after they have been acquired. You may have heard the saying, “Bend the tree while it is still young”.

The point here is that if you develop bad techniques and mechanics when first learning pool this could adversely affect your effectiveness later in using diamond systems. Also there is little use in tackling Pool 202 when you havent mastered Pool 101.

Tip #2: Using diamond systems can enhance natural instinct

There are many pool players who will argue that all you need is a feel for the ball and you can forget any math or physics as applied to the game. These players can apparently make their shots without reverting to any diamond systems and calculation and so experience is more important than learning some trick.

The only problem with this approach is that when such players are having a bad day then they have nothing to resort to.

This is not to say that feel and intuition have no part in the game, but pool follows physical laws that the systems try to simplify for the pool player. Terms such as hard and soft, fast and slow are of course imprecise and would mean different actual speeds (meters per second) for different players.

Tip #3: Take 5 minutes and learn the table in front of you

As mentioned before, because diamond systems by their very nature are more involved, you want to have a perfect and predictable table as possible. Unfortunately, each table will have their own particularities that you must compensate for in your shots.

This takes us back to the argument of intuition versus systems because if youve practiced all your game on one table you may have problems with your shots just being a little off on another table. Your feel may be on spot but the table is not being kind to you.

You must then carry out some simple exercises to test the rubber, cushion, level of table, bad spots and whether the table is playing long or short. Simple things such as if the cue ball is dirty or new can significantly affect your game.

If there is any inconsistency in the table then small mistakes will become magnified and your shots will be off.

Tip #4: Learn the proper english to use with diamond systems

English is often defined in tips, such as in one tip of running english. The only problem here is that different cues have different sizes and curvature of tips; so one tip to the left of center for a 13mm cue tip will be very different for a 12mm tip.

The point here is that tip is not a fair measurement against the cue ball because different cue sticks have different size tips.

Tip #5: Learn the right speed to use with diamond systems.

In simple optics, the angle that light strikes a plane (flat) mirror at is the same angle that it will reflect at. In pool a rebounding ball approaches this same principle (assuming no spin) except that whereas the light doesnt physically affect the mirror the ball compresses the cushion adding another factor to take into consideration.

As a rule of thumb the faster the ball hits the cushion the [smaller] the angle that it leaves the cushion. To get a feel for how this changes with speed of the ball will require constant practice.

This behavior of the ball is a little counter-intuitive so it takes some getting use to which is the whole purpose of trying different speeds of the ball off the cushion and experiencing for yourself the difference in the rebound track line.

Now that was some food for thought.

In my next article I’ll share with you an additional series of tips, that if studied further will guide you to a greater understanding of using diamond systems in pool and billiards.

Geocaching is a GPS (Global Positioning System) hide and seek game, where hiders hide containers (called ‘caches’ or ‘geocaches’) anywhere in the world, record the coordinates, and post a listing on a website for hunters to seek. Hunters can use a handheld GPS unit to get close, but then must use their wits to find the cache and log the find. A typical cache can be any size and may be camouflaged, in order to make the hunt more challenging, and usually contains a logbook for the hunter to sign and usually some small trading items of little monetary value.

In May 2000 the government announced their decision to stop the intentional degradation of GPS signal accuracy. In effect, this made civilian use of GPS systems much more accurate and many times more useful than it had been previously.

On the day following this announcement the first geocache was placed by David Ulmer in Oregon. Ulmer’s idea was simple:

The hider would hide a container, note the coordinates with his GPS unit.

The seeker would locate the container using the given coordinates, make a note in the logbook, then trade items.

It only took a few days for the cache to be found and reported online, and a new outdoor sport was formed.

The sport has grown considerably since its humble beginnings. At this writing there are well over million caches hidden around the world. Odds are that there is a cach close to you. I found my first cache after discovering that one was hidden less than a mile from my home. I guess you could say that I got hooked immediately, since I have found many since then and even hidden a few.

Our family likes to go geocaching as a family activity. The weekends will usually find us in one of our local parks wandering the woods looking for caches.

Here’s how we normally do it:

1. We go to GeoCaching.com or TerraCaching.com to find a good cache close to the area we want to hunt.

2. We print out the cache pages (or alternatively load it into our PDA).

3. We load the coordinates into our GPS unit and set our GPS unit to navigate.

4. We load up our cold drinks (we go caching in Texas, so we have to stay hydrated) and our trade items.

5. We drive to the coordinates and start looking. The cache listing and log entries usually have some hints and can tell us what kind of container we’re looking for.

6. Once we find the cache, we log our find in the cache logbook.

7. We trade a few trade items (usually inexpensive trinkets and toys).

8. Once we get back home, we log our find on the listing website.

9. I also like to write a blog entry about our outing on my geocaching blog at CachingAdventures.com so that I can tell interesting stories about our outing that just don’t fit into the regular log entries.

It’s not unusual for my family to find 3 to 5 caches in one outing. Other more aggressive cachers will do 10 or 20 or more.

An enjoyable cache might be in an unknown park, an urban wilderness area, or a mind-bending puzzle. We have enjoyed getting our sedentary, internet-connected, couch potato bodies out into the great outdoors breathing some fresh air.

Finally! A good reason to go outdoors again!
